Trampoline & Tumbling
At SunDance Gymnastics, we want your child to have the best experience possible! This information is offered to help you and your child feel comfortable on their first day. Our coaching staff will monitor and document your child’s progress each class. This allows their coach to help them master the skills needed to advance to the next level in our program. Please feel free to contact their coach with any questions you may have. We strive to give children an enjoyable, excitable, challenging, and safe class experience.
Power tumbling is performed on elevated spring runways that help tumblers propel themselves higher than a basketball goal as they demonstrate speed, strength and skill while executing a series of acrobatic maneuvers. Top-level contenders will perform explosive somersaults with multiple flips and twists.
Competition trampolines are larger and more powerful than those utilized in the early years and a far cry from the "backyard" models that are found today in most American suburban neighborhoods. These modern trampolines can propel trained athletes as high as 30 feet in the air during performances. During two competitive routines of 10 skills each, upper-level athletes can easily demonstrate a graceful array of double, triple and twisting somersaults.
Double mini is a relatively new sport that combines the horizontal run of tumbling with the vertical rebound of trampoline. After a short run, the athlete jumps onto a small two-level trampoline to perform a rebounding trick immediately followed by a dismount element onto a landing mat. Double mini is similar in concept to springboard diving, using a mat instead of water.
About Our Classes:
Level 1: Basic trampoline and tumbling through progressions to develop required core and upper body strength and flexibility that will be necessary to advance to higher level skills. Focus will be on correct body form, control, technique and learning how to properly jump on the trampoline.
Level 2: The level 2 classes develop more basic skills and progress on the skills learned in the level 1 class. This level also starts integrating more advanced skills such as the back handspring.
Levels 3 and higher: Our level 3 – 5 classes develop advanced tumbling skills and trampoline combinations. These classes are designed to start the basics in flipping both in tumbling and trampoline.
Competitive Team: Trampoline and tumbling has been a rapidly growing competitive sport for many years. In 2000 competitive trampoline was added to the Summer Olympic Games. SunDance Trampoline and Tumbling uses USA Gymnastics as a governing body and compete in levels 4-10. The team is by invitation / tryout only and requires mastery of basic skills.
